KPMG Ireland is the Irish member firm of the KPMG global organisation, providing audit, tax, consulting, deal advisory and AI advisory services across the island of Ireland.[1] Headquartered in Dublin, the firm operates on an all-Ireland basis, with offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, and Galway.[2]

KPMG Ireland serves multinational companies, public sector bodies and privately owned businesses, and also advises individuals in areas such as tax, across multiple sectors of the economy.

History

The origins of KPMG Ireland trace back to 1876, when the accounting firm Stokes Brothers was established in Dublin.[3]

In 1972, Stokes Bros. & Pim merged with Kennedy Crowley & Co. to form Stokes Kennedy Crowley & Co., marking a significant expansion of the firm’s operations in Ireland.

The firm became part of the global KPMG network in 1987, following the international merger of Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler.

The firm established an office in Belfast in 1974, opened in Galway in 1980, and added an office in Dublin’s International Financial Services Centre in 1998.

In 2002, KPMG Ireland expanded further through the integration of partners and staff from Andersen in Ireland.

By the late 2010s, the firm had grown to several thousand employees and became one of the largest professional services firms in Ireland.

Operations

KPMG Ireland operates as a partnership and is part of the global KPMG network, which provides professional services in over 150 countries.

The firm delivers services across four main areas:

  • Audit – audit and assurance services
  • Tax – tax services for businesses and individuals operating in Ireland and internationally
  • Consulting – consulting services focused on business performance, governance and technology
  • Deal Advisory – transaction, restructuring and deal-related advisory services
  • AI Services – artificial intelligence consulting and advisory services supporting strategy, implementation and responsible AI adoption

KPMG Ireland works with both domestic and international clients, including companies operating in Ireland as a hub for European and global business.[4]

Structure and workforce

KPMG Ireland operates on an all-island basis, covering both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The firm employs several thousand professionals across its offices, including partners and staff specialising in audit, tax, consulting, and advisory services.

Its organisational structure follows a partnership model, with governance and strategic direction determined by its partners.

Services and clients

KPMG Ireland provides services to a wide range of industries, including financial services, technology, healthcare, real estate, and public sector organisations.

The firm supports clients in areas such as regulatory compliance, financial reporting, taxation strategy, risk management, and business transformation.

Its tax division includes specialists in areas such as transfer pricing, VAT, international taxation, and executive services.

Corporate activities

KPMG Ireland publishes transparency reports, governance disclosures, and research on economic and business trends in Ireland.

The firm also engages in corporate social responsibility initiatives and programmes related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
