Mason Hayes & Curran (often referred to as “MHC”) is an Irish business law firm founded in 1970 and headquartered in Dublin, with international offices in London, New York and San Francisco.[1]
History
The firm was established in 1970 through the merger of two long-standing practices: Walker Mason & Curran, whose partners included Dermot Mason, Maurice Curran and his father Dermott Curran and Michael Hayes & Co., founded by Michael Hayes, who had served as Dublin City Sheriff since 1958.[2]
Shortly after the merger, the firm was strengthened by the addition of several notable practitioners: Conal Clancy of CJ Clancy & Co., Stephen Dempsey of Patrick J. Brady & Co., Jack Cullen of JAK Cullen and James McWilliam of Henry B. Fotterell & Co.[3]
Initially based at 6 and 7 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, the firm operated from this location for approximately 36 years before relocating in 2006 to new offices on Barrow Street, at the heart of Dublin’s “Silicon Docks” district.[4]
On 25 May 2020, the firm was authorised by the Legal Services Regulatory Authority to operate as a limited liability partnership. Over time, the firm has expanded its international presence, establishing offices in Dublin, London, New York and San Francisco.[5]

- In October 2025, Mason Hayes & Curran announced that it was ranked by Mergermarket as #1 legal adviser in Ireland for M&A by deal volume for the first nine months of 2025, having advised on 38 transactions.
- In September 2024, a survey by Mason Hayes & Curran found that six in ten legal professionals preferred mediation over other forms of dispute resolution, reflecting the firm’s active role in ADR

- In May 2025 the firm announced the promotion of new senior lawyers including three new partners and seven of counsel, as part of its talent-development strategy for key sectors including technology, financial services and healthcare.
- In September 2025 the firm launched the dedicated site section called Capsule. It’s focused on the life sciences sector (medical devices, pharmaceuticals, digital health, cosmetics, food, chemicals), reflecting its growing regulatory and sector-specialism.
- In April 2024, a decision by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) ordered Mason Hayes & Curran to retrain its managers on disability policies and pay €5,000 compensation to a dismissed solicitor in a disability discrimination case.
