Oldřich Špůrek

Oldřich Špůrek (*2008) is a Czech astrophotographer and photographer focused primarily on the night sky and fulldome panoramic imaging. His work is recognized worldwide, and he shares his photos on social media.[1]

Life

Oldřich Špůrek was born in 2008 and studies at Gymnázium Ústavní in Prague. He became interested in photography at the age of twelve, when he began experimenting with a DSLR camera. A turning point came while photographing the Milky Way in the region of České Švýcarsko, which led him to pursue astrophotography more seriously. [1]

Career

Špůrek works at FotoŠkoda, where he is involved in customer service and the management of e-shop orders. He also collaborates with Planetum – Prague Observatory and Planetarium, contributing high resolution fulldome photos. [1]

Work

Špůrek’s work focuses primarily on full-dome (all-sky) astrophotography and wide-field imaging of the night sky. His main area of interest is capturing the entire sky in a single composition, often in the form of full-sphere panoramic images.

For panoramic work, he typically uses lenses around 35mm, allowing for higher detail and resolution through multi-frame stitching rather than ultra-wide single exposures. His workflow includes careful planning of astronomical conditions and advanced post-processing techniques, particularly for panoramic stitching.

In addition to still photography, he aims to expand his work into full-sky timelapse photography in the future.[2]

Awards

His work has received several awards, including:

  • award in the international competition Capture The Dark (youth category)[3]
  • recipient of the Jindřich Zeman Award for astrophotography of the year 2025[4]
