Josh Universe

Josh Universe[1] is an American analog astronaut, Science communicator, and Biohacker. Josh Universe is the Founder of the International Biohacking Community, the largest biohacker community of over 1,300,000 members, and a member of the Transhumanist Party.[2][3] Universe is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics and a Master of Science in Commercial Enterprise in Space at the Florida Institute of Technology. Additionally, he is a scientist-astronaut candidate at the International Institute of Astronautical Sciences (IIAS), where he is engaged in professional training in applied astronautics.[4]

Early life and education

Josh Universe attended Bullitt East High School from 2018 to 2022[5] and Jefferson Community and Technical College from 2020 to 2022. He later relocated to Melbourne, Florida, to further his education at the Florida Institute of Technology. Universe is studying astrophysics at the Florida Institute of Technology. Universe is also studying "Commercial Enterprise in Space" through the Florida Institute of Technology masters program. Universe also graduated from Southern New Hampshire University in 2026 with his Bachelor in Business Administration.[6] Universe also has a professional certificate from Ivy Tech Community College in the "Cybersecurity and Information Assurance" program.

Career

Astrochain

Josh Universe is the Chief Executive Officer of Astrochain,[7][8] a US-based space research company that develops blockchain applications for astronomical data and science communication. Astrochain aims to create a decentralized platform to store and share astronomy captures, promoting education, scientific research, and innovation.[9] The platform allows astronomers and hobbyist Astrophotographers to mint their work as non-fungible tokens, providing cryptographic ownership of their astronomical data.[10] Astrochain has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Space Companies in the United States by F6S.[11]

Science communication

As a science communicator, Josh Universe engages with a broad audience through various digital platforms. He maintains an educational astronomy blog, produces YouTube videos, and hosts a podcast titled "StarFM[12]," where he discusses topics ranging from neutrinos and cosmological phenomena to exoplanets and habitability for life. Universe also developed "Universe Launches," a rocket launch tracking platform, and the "Astronomy Quiz of The Day[13]" to further engage and educate his audience.[14] Josh Universe has over 180,00 followers on Facebook and 38,000 followers on Instagram.

Josh Universe is the owner of several online communities, including an Amino called "Space Amino", with over 25,000 members involved.[15]

Astronaut training

Josh Universe is undergoing astronaut training at the International Institute of Astronautical Sciences (IIAS).[16] His training encompasses suborbital training, space suit evaluation, space life-support systems, mission simulation, and specialized modules. Josh Universe is also an analog astronaut, an individual who assumes the role of an astronaut during a Human analog mission,[17] and the mission commander of the ILMAH XIX analog mission in the University of North Dakota Inflatable Lunar-Mars Analog Habitat(ILMAH) and developed a Brain–computer interface with ChatGPT.[18] Josh Universe is a recognized "STAR" analog candidate.

Involvement in biohacking

Josh Universe is the founder of the International Biohacking Community,[19] the largest online network that connects individuals interested in biohacking and transhumanism.[20] The community has a significant presence on platforms like Reddit and Discord, including the largest biohacking subreddit and the largest Transhumanism subreddit and the largest Biohacking Discord community, with over 10,000 members.[21] The International Biohacking Community shares information on various topics, including Nootropics, Microchip implants (human), CRISPR protocols, and related practices.

The International Biohacking Community is also home to several figures, including Bryan Johnson, Max More, Dave Asprey, and other well-known biohackers.

Josh Universe is known for having several human microchip implants for encrypted subdermal security, access control, and information-sharing purposes. Josh Universe is also a cryonicst with the Alcor Life Extension Foundation and Tomorrow Biostasis.

Josh Universe is known for being a Transhumanist, founding the Transhumanist Council, and for having the largest Transhumanist Discord server, Reddit community, and online forum. The Transhumanist Council has an estimated member count of 139,000 members. Universe has also frequently appeared on transhumanist podcasts and other media, including U.S. Transhumanist Party podcasts.[22][23][24]

NASA involvement

Josh Universe has been involved with NASA in formal and informal capacities. He served as the review chair and primary reviewer for a NASA Proposal Board and is the Chief Scientist and Outreach Officer for the NASA L'SPACE Mission Concept Academy. Josh Universe studies under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs in International Space Law.[25][26]

Personal life

Josh Universe currently resides in Melbourne, Florida.[27] He continues to pursue his academic and professional goals while actively engaging with the space and biohacking communities. Josh Universe is 6'5"(1.96m) tall.[28]
