SmartScout is a software as a service (SaaS) company that develops analytics tools for Amazon marketplace sellers. It was founded in 2021 by Scott Needham, who also serves as CEO.[1] [2]
Products
The platform compiles Amazon marketplace listings into searchable databases for product and brand analysis. Core features include a brand directory, subcategory explorer, traffic mapping, and advertising insights.[3]
Reception
SmartScout’s reports and datasets have been cited in a range of media. In 2025, Business Insider and CBS News referenced its research in coverage of tariff-driven price increases on Amazon.[4] [5]
Forbes has drawn on SmartScout data to illustrate differences in ad spending between small and large brands.[6] Modern Retail, Sports Business Journal, and Men’s Journal have covered its findings in the context of wider Amazon marketplace trends.[7] [8] [9]
International reporting has highlighted its market research as well. The South China Morning Post reported in 2024 that Chinese cities had overtaken U.S. hubs as the largest base of Amazon sellers.[10] Reuters cited its analysis regarding price changes by Chinese electronics firm Anker.[11] Further references have appeared in Global Times.[12]
