Zana Gümüş

Zana Gümüş (born 31 March 2001) is a Turkish politician and a member of the municipal council of Sarıyer in Istanbul. He represents Turkey at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CLRAE).[1]

Early life and education

Gümüş was born on 31 March 2001 in Diyarbakır, Türkiye.[2]

He studied International Relations at Istanbul Kültür University and Public Relations and Promotion at Atatürk University. And, he finished International Relations postgraduate programme at University of Leicester. He pursues PhD in the field of Political Science and International Relations.[3]

Political career

Gümüş was elected to the municipal council of Sarıyer during the 2024 local elections.[4]

He has been identified in Turkish media as one of the youngest Turkish members of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.[5]

International engagement

Gümüş has addressed the Council of Europe Congress on issues relating to local governance, security, and democratic participation. In one of his speeches on urban security, he stated that "every second chance given is a victory against hopelessness".[6][7]

He has also highlighted the importance of democratic principles during his interventions at the Congress.[8]

Gümüş has participated in international election-observation missions conducted by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, including missions in Finland and North Macedonia.[9][10][11]

Publications and other activities

Gümüş is the founder of a consultancy firm[12] and has authored several books. His first publication appeared when he was around fifteen years old.[13]
