Count Cseszneky

Count Cseszneky is a title of nobility held by all members of the House of Cseszneky, whereas the head of the family is styled as Princely Count Cseszneky (or Princely Count of Csesznek). The title refers to the surname of the family, which itself derives from the name of their ancestral seat, Csesznek Castle, in Hungary.

Historical overview

Lords of Csesznek (c. 1260)

Jakab Cseszneky, royal swordbearer, built Csesznek Castle in the Bakony mountains in Western Hungary around 1260 with the permission of King Béla IV of Hungary, thus establishing the mediaeval Lordship of Csesznek.

Lords of Kisbabot (1534)

György Cseszneky, royal commander of Győr Castle, received the Lordship of Kisbabot in Western Hungary from Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary.

Counts of the Sacred Lateran Palace (before 1547)

György Cseszneky received the honour.

Lords of Kisbudafa (1626)

Benedek Cseszneky, landowner and diplomat, received new letters patent from Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary.

Counts Cseszneky (1941)

Gyula Cseszneky, royal aide-de-camp, and Mihály Cseszneky, industrialist, received a Croatian comital title from King Tomislav II of Croatia.

Kangjeng Pangeran Cseszneky (2023)

Count Miklós Cseszneky was granted princely status along with the Javanese princely title of Kangjeng Pangeran (abbreviated as KP.) by the King of Mangkualaman (Pakualaman), which is a constitutionally recognised monarchy in Indonesia. Subsequently, further royal houses accorded hereditary princely status to the holder.
