Golam Mortuza (Bengali: গোলাম মোর্তুজা) is a Bangladeshi entrepreneur, global education leader, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of MH Global Group, an international consortium of over 13 companies operating in more than 17 countries, employing over 1,000 people worldwide. Early Life and Education

Golam Mortuza was born in Sonaimuri, Noakhali, Bangladesh, into a respected Muslim spiritual family. His father, the late Dr. Golam Mostafa, was a prominent physician, social reformer, and religious leader whose dedication to social welfare and community empowerment served as a major inspiration for Mortuza’s later philanthropic work. Dr. Mostafa was instrumental in establishing and leading several mosques and madrassas in the region.

Mortuza completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Amirabad High School in 1994 and his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Chaumuhani Government College in 1996. He earned a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka in 2004 and an MSc in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom in 2008.

He has also attended numerous educational development and training programs, including those organized by the British Council and UCAS, and is a British Council-trained education agent.


Career

Mortuza founded the MH Global Group, a dynamic organization focused on three key sectors: education, the shipping industry, and property investment. The group's stated aim is to empower individuals through quality education, innovate in the shipping sector, and promote human rights via charitable initiatives.[1]

Education Sector

The education ventures of the MH Global Group focus on facilitating international higher education, particularly connecting students from Bangladesh and other countries with UK universities.

  • AHZ : As founder and CEO, Mortuza leads this major UK university representative organization, which has 68 branches in 17 countries. AHZ facilitates student recruitment, offering counseling, application support, visa guidance, and partnering with over 1,000 institutions globally. The company has been shortlisted for industry recognition, such as the PIEoneer Awards. Media reports indicate that Mortuza’s ventures, including AHZ, have supported over 25,000 Bangladeshi students in accessing UK institutions.[2]
  • NCUK Study Centre (Bangladesh and Nigeria) & MIE Pathways: He is CEO of the NCUK Study Centre operations, which offer access courses for progression to over 55 universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. MIE Pathways, a sister concern of MH Global Group, is the only NCUK Study Centre in Bangladesh, providing the International Foundation Year locally in Dhaka to bridge academic gaps for international higher education.[3]
  • MIE English Academy: Mortuza founded and serves as CEO of this non-profit initiative, which aims to empower youth by providing affordable English language training.
  • Connected HE: He is the CEO and co-founder of this platform, which supports global higher education by connecting institutes and recruiters.

Mortuza also serves as an Advisory Board Member for Employer Engagement at Northumbria University, London, where he provides insights on entrepreneurship and helps align curricula with industry needs. He is also a Trustee and majority shareholder of the University of Development Alternative in Bangladesh.

  • Oceanshiptrade Pte. Ltd. (Singapore): He is a Director of this company, which operates in global shipping, brokering, chartering, commodity trading, ship sales, and marine claims handling.
  • Star Global Shipping Ltd. (UK): He oversees this company, which offers time charter and voyage solutions, adhering to global marine standards.

His business interests also extend to property investment in the UK:

  • AHZ Property Services: He is CEO and a shareholder of this leading UK property investment company.
  • 16 Clare Street Management: He is CEO and a shareholder, focusing on commercial property investment in the UK.

Philanthropy

Inspired by his father’s legacy, Mortuza founded and advises the Dr. Mostafa Hazera Foundation (DMHF), a government-approved charity organization. The foundation is active in Sonaimuri, Chatkhil, and other regions, focusing on community development, education, and support for vulnerable groups including the blind, disabled, autistic individuals, the homeless, street children, and migrant workers.[4]

The foundation provides education, guidance, care, and resources to help break cycles of poverty. Notable activities include:

  • Financial support for 140 victims in hospitals during Bangladesh’s 2024 anti-discrimination student revolution.
  • Aiding over 10,000 people with food, shelter, and medicine during floods in Feni, Noakhali, and Laxmipur.
  • Conducting over 20 charitable activities annually, with a strong focus on relief, education, infrastructure support, and community welfare programs. The foundation's website reports that Mortuza has delivered addresses at international platforms, including at the UN.

Personal Life and Recognition

Mortuza is married to Syeda Masuda Akter Nasrin Bhuiyan, a qualified teacher who holds a BSc and MSc in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka. She is involved in family management, Islamic dawah (preaching), and free adult Quran learning.

He has been active in organizational engagements since age 14, including involvement as a student political supporter at Dhaka University. Mortuza is also known as a motivational and public speaker, with a focus on leadership, teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving.
