Cargoson

From WikiAlpha

Cargoson is an Estonian business-to-business cloud-based transport management software (TMS) company headquartered in Tallinn. Founded in 2018, it develops a multi-carrier freight management platform for manufacturers and wholesalers in Europe and North America.

History

Cargoson was founded in 2018 by Ülari Kalamees, Aivo Kurik, Tanel Vaarmann, and Ranno Maripuu, several of whom were previously executives at one of Estonia's largest logistics companies.[1] The company is registered as Cargoson OÜ in the Estonian Business Register.

In August 2022, Cargoson initiated a public funding round, with co-founder Ülari Kalamees appearing on the Estonian technology podcast Restart to discuss the company's plans.[2]

Product

Cargoson is a cloud-based transport management system that consolidates carrier communications, freight rate management, shipment tracking, and logistics document generation into a single platform. The software supports multi-carrier and multi-mode transport including road, courier, parcel, air, sea, and rail freight.[3]

The platform is positioned as carrier-neutral: customers contract directly with their own carriers and upload their own freight rates rather than purchasing transport through Cargoson. The company has built integrations with over 2,000 carriers, including FedEx (as a FedEx Compatible solution), DSV, DHL, UPS, and Schenker, alongside regional and local carriers.[4][5]

Cargoson integrates with enterprise resource planning systems including Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle NetSuite, and Odoo, allowing shipment data to flow between Cargoson and a customer's ERP.

The platform is ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 9001:2015 certified, GDPR compliant, and hosted in the European Union.

Reception and academic study

Cargoson has been the subject of academic research at Tallinn University of Technology. A 2021 bachelor's thesis analyzed the company as a case study in container shipping communication practices in Estonia.[6] A 2025 master's thesis examined the impact of transport management systems on corporate strategic objectives, documenting outcomes at Stoneridge Electronics, an Estonian customer of Cargoson, including a 27% reduction in transport costs relative to revenue and an increase in first-promised-date delivery from 87% to 94%.[7]

In November 2025, the Italian logistics trade publication Logistica featured Cargoson among eight transport management software solutions in its monthly editorial review.

The company has received recognition from software review platforms including Capterra (Best Ease of Use 2022, 2023, 2025; Best Value 2022, 2023) and SoftwareAdvice (Best Customer Support 2023, Most Recommended 2023).

Customers

As of 2025, Cargoson reports over 500 manufacturer and wholesaler customers across Europe and North America. Publicly identified customers include the European mobility company Bolt, which has described its use of Cargoson for managing scooter and battery logistics across its micromobility operations,[3] Estonian electronics manufacturer Stoneridge Electronics,[7] and industrial supply distributor Onninen.
