Centerbase is a U.S.-based legal technology firm that delivers cloud-hosted practice management software for mid-sized law firms. Founded in 2015 by John Forbes and headquartered in Dallas|Dallas, Texas, the platform consolidates core firm functions, including billing, time capture, accounting, matter management, and Workflow|workflow automation.[1][2]

History and overview

Centerbase was established by software entrepreneur John Forbes.[3] Early product development incorporated feedback from law firms and observations from Forbes’ daughter while she was in law school. The company’s first offering was unveiled at the 2017 ABA TECHSHOW, showcasing an all-in-one system for key law firm workflows.[4][5]

In 2021, Centerbase acquired Family Law Software, a provider of divorce and financial planning tools.[6][7][8] That year, the company also secured growth equity from Mainsail Partners.[9][10][11][12]

In 2022, the company purchased Legalfit, a marketing platform that offers Web design|website design and Search engine optimization|SEO services for law firms.[13][14][3]

Products and features

Centerbase’s core product is a cloud-based suite that brings together timekeeping, billing, matter management, accounting, and customer relationship management.[2] Notable capabilities include Automated Time Capture, which observes activity in applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.com|Outlook and proposes billable entries for attorney review, aiming to improve timekeeping accuracy and efficiency.[15]

In 2023, Centerbase introduced profitability reporting that enables analysis of metrics such as revenue, expenses, and billable hours.[16][5] In 2024, the company added a document management system built on Microsoft SharePoint that supports version control, optical character recognition, and Electronic signature|e-signatures.[17]

Also in 2024, Centerbase received a patent covering aspects of its Automated Time Capture technology.[18][19]
