Chris Anastasopoulos

Chris Anastasopoulos (born 1968) is a Canadian financial executive and business leader with over three decades of experience in asset management, financial planning, and operations. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of DRI Capital from 2015 to 2024, following senior roles at OMERS from 2004 to 2015 and TD Bank from 1997 to 2004.

Anastasopoulos is known for his expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic capital management. He is also a board member and Treasurer of Fred Victor Centre, a non-profit organization in Toronto.

Early life and education

Chris earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree from the University of Toronto in 1991. He later pursued an MBA at the Rotman School of Management, where he graduated in 2009. During his time at Rotman, he was named to the Dean’s List and was also awarded the Bregman Scholarship. Chris continued his professional development with the CFO Leadership Program at Rotman in 2018.

Career

Chris started his career at KPMG as an audit manager, where he developed a strong foundation in financial controls and reporting. His experience at KPMG helped shape his approach to financial oversight and attention to detail.

After KPMG, Chris transitioned to the corporate world, taking on senior roles at DRI Capital. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at DRI, he led various financial functions, including asset valuations, debt management, and financial reporting. He was also involved in DRI’s initial public offering (IPO), playing a key role in the transition of financial statements from US GAAP to IFRS standards. Additionally, Chris helped drive the implementation of a cloud-based financial reporting system, which greatly improved efficiency and data analysis capabilities.

Chris also worked at OMERS, one of Canada's largest pension funds, where he contributed to the organization’s financial management and operations. He later joined TD Bank, where he led initiatives to improve financial systems, streamline operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

In 2024, Chris left DRI Capital following a company restructuring, which came after an internal investigation into some financial matters. While he was cleared of any wrongdoing, Chris decided to move on from the company and pursue new opportunities, helping with the transition until the end of October 2024.

Community involvement

Chris has been actively involved in community service and nonprofit work throughout his career. He has been serving as a board member and Treasurer of the Fred Victor Centre, a Toronto-based organization supporting individuals facing homelessness. He has also contributed to Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada) and mentored MBA students at the Rotman School of Management, participating in leadership and career development programs.
