John M. Laviter
John Laviter is an American entrepreneur and executive known as the founder of Northpoint Asset Management, Inc.[1] During his tenure, the company grew significantly, managing over $5 billion in real-estate assets and operating 44 offices in 23 U.S. states.[2] He is also a lead partner in a $2 billion real-estate investment trust (REIT) based in Salt Lake City, Utah.[3][4][5]
Early life and education
Laviter graduated from Harvard Business School and earned an MBA degree from the International School of Management in 2010. He earned a BA degree with academic honors from Brigham Young University in 2004.[6]
Career
Laviter began his career as a research intern at FMV Opinions, Inc. in 2004, followed by roles as financial analyst and later asset manager at Kunz Investments.[7] In 2006, Laviter founded Northpoint Asset Management, a real-estate investment and property-management company headquartered in Utah. Under his leadership, the firm expanded to manage over $5 billion in assets across 44 offices in 23 U.S. states.[8]
Laviter has spoken publicly on real-estate market trends, including as a panelist discussing deflation risks at an IMN conference in 2024.[9][10] He has also been featured in media interviews discussing leadership and entrepreneurship, including the article “The No. 1 Character Trait to Form Entrepreneurial Success.”[11]
The company appeared multiple times on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies.[12][13] Laviter has been featured on podcasts and university media for his business insights, including the episode “How to Grow Fast and Survive” on Grow the Dream Show.[14][15]
In December 2023, Laviter stepped down as Chairman and CEO and sold his ownership in Northpoint to private-equity firm LP First Capital.[16][17] Laviter also served on the Board of Trustees at Southern Virginia University from 2020 to 2024.[18]
